Liam Doran feels he now has the pace to challenge for wins in the World Rallycross championship, but needs to match the consistency of his Monster Energy RX Cartel team mate Andreas Bakkerud if he is to do so regularly.
The Brit finished on the podium in the season opener in Abu Dhabi, and has been a regular fixture in the finals for much of this season, but feels there’s a few small things he still needs to clear up.
“Without a doubt there’s no one that can argue with the speed that I have, I’m matching Andreas a lot of the time so I think that there’s no question about how fast we can go,” he said. “The consistency is not quite where it should be but without a doubt, the pace is there and that’s the most important thing, the rest can come.”
“I have good racecraft, I often show that I can pull back from bad positions and get a result and that’s always a strong skill to have, and I have the lap times,” he added. “You need a bit of luck and consistency. Sometimes you make your own luck and certain things are getting on top of me and pulling me back.”

After showing progress getting to grips with the Audi S1 over the first four events of the season, Doran now heads to Hell in Norway full of confidence that he can break his duck on a track that he has performed well at in the past.
I’ve done enough events now, I’ve got a hang of the car now, it’s showing with the pace because I struggled at the start with the speed of the car, I’ve got that out of the way now,” he said. “I feel confident with my team mate, I feel confident with my car and my team, so there’s nothing holding me back.”
“I go to a track like Hell that I know very well and I’ve always performed very well there because it suits my driving style, I’m going to be confident,” Doran continued. “Everybody else is fast as well, of course, no one’s slow here.”
“If you go into an event confident that you can get a good result, that’s the last little bit you need to perform so I’m a lot more confident going to Norway than I was here.”
