Liam Doran is relishing his return to home soil in the World Rallycross Championship, his first in three years.

Doran raced at Silverstone last year in the inaugural Americas Rallycross race, but he hasn’t competed at a British World RX event since 2016, when he raced at Lydden Hill.

“It’s always great to have your home event. I’m excited to be racing here, and at the top level,” said Doran. “I’ve got a big point to prove.”

In what was his professional rallycross comeback, Doran finished third in the ARX curtain-raiser after a race-long battle with eventual series champion Scott Speed.

“I liked the track last year, it was quite good that I learnt it even though I raced in the ARX class, I still was able to learn the track so I’m not really on the back-foot like we have been and I’m quietly confident.”

“If I was given a choice to win anywhere it would be here but I wouldn’t say I’m aiming for that this weekend, I’m aiming for a good result.”

Doran has enjoyed a strong season so far, racing for Monster Energy RX Catel. He took his first World championship podium in Abu Dhabi, and starred in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps only for a mistake in the final to spoil his run.

“For me it was a fantastic weekend because I’ve never been the most consistent driver with speed, I’m always struggling in qualifying a bit and I’m usually able to put it together where it counts in the finals,” he said. “For me that was great, to end day one in P1, and to go into the second day P3 on what was a tougher day. I was really happy, but then I missed the brake pedal when I shouldn’t have done.”

“I messed it up completely for me, and for others as well so it was frustrating but it is what it is.”
