Timmy Hansen completed a clean sweep of the first two qualifying rounds of World Rallycross of Great Britain, returning to form after a lull last time out at Spa Francorchamps.

Hansen, along with his brother Kevin have been near-constant fixtures at the top of the time sheets all season, but slipped down the order in Belgium. The Silverstone road brought about a return to form for both drivers, who ended the day first and second in qualifying.

It couldn’t have gone better,” said Hansen. “It’s a track that suits our car very well and immediately from the first laps of practice I was in a good rhythm, starts have been good, everything in general has just gone exactly as we hoped it would.”

“It’s much harder than it sounds, but everything has gone well,” he added. “I think Spa is a really good example of how easily small things turn the weekend into something very different.”

“In Barcelona everything went perfectly, and then in Belgium it was just some small, little things. I think we the pace, we were there but it was not the weekend that we hoped for, and that’s rallycross; everything has to be right – you have to do the good launches, you have to take the right fights.”

“It wasn’t going our way but now it feels that Kevin and I are on it and we are where we want to be again.”

With the potential for overnight rain, Hansen is wary that his task could become tougher on Sunday, despite his advantageous position.

“I think we have to look and see if any rain is coming, we are in Great Britain after all,” he said. “It’s super close and this fastest first grid just brings everyone even closer together.”

“I have to make no mistakes, just one mistake and I wouldn’t have been P1,” he added. “They’re very fine margins, a lot of guys are fast out there and everybody is doing everything they can to get up front so we have to work, at the minimum, equally hard to stay where we are right now.”
