Niclas Gronholm led the World Rallycross field at the end of the first day of running at Circuit Trois-Rivières in Canada.
The GRX Hyundai driver, who topped the second round of heats, headed Andreas Bakkerud who led Q1.
Guerlain Chicherit and Anton Marklund were third and fourth respectively, capping off a strong first day for GCK, while Timur Timerzyanov made it two Hyundai i20s in the top five. Timo Scheider was next up in the Munnich Motorsport Seat Ibiza, ahead of Janis Baumanis and Liam Doran.
Rokas Baciuska ensured that all three GCK Meganes ended the day in the top-10 with ninth spot after Q2, with the recently-marries Krisztian Szabo in tenth.
After a tricky first day Timmy and Kevin Hansen languished in the final two transfer spots.
In Americas Rallycross, Travis PeCoy impressed to lead reigning champion Scott Speed after the first two rounds of heats.
PeCoy began the day with an engine change, a move that proved to be of huge benefit to the youngster who finished second overall in Q1 and first in Q2 – which took place after a lengthy weather delay after a storm swept over the Quebec circuit.
Behind Speed in third was Patrik Sandell who set the fastest lap time across both World RX and ARX fields in practice. The Swede carried that form through to Q1, which he topped in convincing fashion, but hit trouble in Q2, being classified last overall.
Tanner Foust ended the day in fourth, ahead of Steve Arpin who recovered from a slow Q1 race to win his Q2 heat in convincing fashion and take third overall in that round. Cabot Bigham and Chris Atkinson competed the ARX field after its first day of running.
