Timmy Hansen claimed top qualifying spot at World Rallycross of Great Britain, despite being beaten to first by Andreas Bakkerud in both Q3 and Q4.
Hansen, who dominated Saturday’s running, finished second to Bakkerud in Q3. He then took fourth in Q4 after being shuffled back into the back on his heat’s opening lap, before being beaten to the line by Kevin Hansen.
Kevin Hansen slipped from his overnight position of second to third, behind Bakkerud, after Sunday morning’s running. Meanwhile Joni Wiman continued to progress up the board, ending qualifying fourth overall.
Anton Marklund took fifth, ahead of home favourite Liam Doran, Guerlain Chicherit, Krisztian Szabo, and Timo Scheider, who after his remarkable turnaround yesterday, slipped slightly in the standings after a tough Q3 and Q4 where he took 12th and ninth places respectively.
Janis Baumanis claimed the final spot in the top-10, ahead of Spa-Francorchamps winner Timur Timerzyanov.
Oliver Bennett, racing on home turf, qualified for the semi-finals for the first time in his World RX career. The Mini driver had a strong run to eighth overall in Q3, being narrowly beaten after a race-long battle with Doran, before capitalising of Guillame De Ridder’s non-start in the final round of heats to advance.
The Belgian retired in Q3, then after a mix-up on the grid, didn’t take any part in Q4. His GCK Academy team mate Cyril Raymond was another driver who failed to qualify, despite an impressive third place in Q3. The Renault Clio pair join Jani Paasonen, Mark Higgins, and Herve Knapick on the sidelines.
