World Rallycross Championship leader Kevin Hansen is looking to return to form after narrowly missing out on a final berth for the first time this season at Spa-Francorchamps.
Hansen and his brother Timmy didn’t showcase the dominant form we had become used to this season at the Belgian track, but the Swede is unfazed, insisting that he has to take the rough with the smooth.
“Some races need to go bad for some to be really good,” he said. “I think Spa really showed the true rallycross way where you have to be really sharp all the way through, and many people can be really fast.”
“We were just a bit unlucky, we made some wrong choices on the first day but in the end it’s not a big loss.”
Despite not making the final, Hansen comes to Silverstone still top of the points table, with Timmy Hansen second, marking the first time in a top-level FIA world championship that two brothers have locked out the top two spots in the standings. The championship lead however isn’t adding any extra pressure to Hansen, who claimed his first World RX win at the season opener in Abu Dhabi.
“At the moment we are checking that box, it feels great,” he said. “We are one-two in the drivers’ championship and leading the teams’ championship so, so far so good.”
“To be honest this feels like the first race, I’m still Kevin,” Hansen added. “In the end the points are on the board and I’m still racing as normal.”
“I’m really enjoying in so far this season and it’s been great to be in our own team and doing so well.”
Coming to Silverstone, Hansen is returning to the sight of his first World RX final appearance of 2018. Hansen is a fan of the track at the British Grand Prix venue, and feels it plays to the strengths of Team Hansen MJP’s Peugeot 208s.
“I really like the track – I think it’s really rhythmic and really fun. It’s lot shorter and slower than the other tracks we have so it’s really a different challenge, which I think suits the 208.”
